Marble Countertops
Marble Countertops in Charleston, SC
Palmetto Surfacing cuts and installs marble countertops for homes across Charleston, SC, in our North Charleston shop. Marble is softer than granite or quartzite. It scratches, and acids etch it. We tell you that up front, then help you put it where it holds up: vanities, fireplace surrounds, baking areas, and kitchens that do not take hard daily use.
The marble we carry
We keep marble slabs in our showroom and slab yard on Southrail Road, next to granite, quartzite, quartz, and Corian. Every marble slab has its own veining, so pick yours in person. When you find the one you want, we reserve that exact slab for your job.
Where marble works
Bathroom vanities are a natural fit, with less acid and less wear than a kitchen. Fireplace surrounds see almost none. Bakers like a marble section for rolling dough because the stone stays cool. In a kitchen, marble suits people who do not mind a surface that shows its age.
Etching and staining
Lemon juice, wine, and vinegar leave dull spots called etches. Sealing slows that down. It does not stop it. Marble is porous, so oil and wine can also stain it if they sit. A honed, matte finish hides small etches better than a polished one.
Sealing and care in Lowcountry humidity
In Charleston humidity we recommend sealing marble once a year. Clean it with soap and water or a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth, and skip acidic or harsh sprays. Wipe up spills, salt, and moisture quickly. Before storm season is a good time to check the seal.
Price and timing
Price depends on the slab you choose and the size of the job, so we quote each project. Call 843-569-1131 to make a showroom appointment and bring your measurements. Your sales consultant emails a quote within 48 hours of receiving dimensions. No measurements? We will send a field tech to measure at no charge. Once your cabinets are in, templating a full kitchen takes about 30 to 60 minutes, and most jobs install one to two weeks after that.
Marble vs. quartzite vs. quartz for Charleston homes
Love the look but want less upkeep? Quartzite is a natural stone with similar veining and durability much closer to granite. Quartz never needs sealing, and granite handles heat and scratches. Our guide to choosing a countertop material compares all of them, and we will lay the slabs side by side for you.
Marble Countertop FAQ
Is marble a good choice for a kitchen countertop?
It can be, if you are fine with a surface that shows its age. Marble scratches and etches more than granite or quartzite. Plenty of our marble customers come to love the patina. Others pick quartzite for the look with less upkeep. For a kitchen that sees heavy daily use, we will show you both.
Will marble stain or etch?
Both can happen. Acids like lemon juice, wine, and vinegar etch the surface and leave dull spots. Oil and wine can stain it if they sit. Sealing slows both but does not make marble stain-proof, so wipe spills up quickly.
How often should marble be sealed in Charleston?
Once a year. That is what we recommend for natural stone in Charleston humidity. In between, clean it with soap and water or a pH-neutral cleaner.
How much do marble countertops cost?
It depends on the slab and the size of the job, so we price each project. Your sales consultant emails a quote within 48 hours of receiving dimensions. If you do not have measurements, we will send a field tech to measure at no charge.
How long does a marble countertop project take?
We template after your cabinets are installed, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes for a full kitchen. Most jobs install about one to two weeks after templating, depending on the slab and the size of the job.
Why Charleston homeowners choose marble:
